The Bible tells a story of a slave woman named Hagar who encountered the God. As she ran away from an abusive situation, God met her in the desert. Hagar’s meeting with the Living God did not only change her situation, but it changed her.
Her encounter with God gave her strength to return to Sarai and Abram and give birth to a son.
Genesis 16:13 (KJV)
She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: “You are (El Roi) the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now seen the One who sees (raha) me.”
Being seen by God was not fearful to Hagar. She wasn’t afraid. Instead, Hagar felt blessed by His presence and she says, “I’ve seen the One who Raha (sees) me. This word means to understand or experience God. To be seen by God means more than a visual encounter, it means God is the very present help in times of trouble.
Years later God met Hagar again. This time she was brokenhearted. Abraham had chosen Sarah and Isaac over her and Ishmael. Rejected and thrown away, Haggar had given up hope. All seemed lost.
Their water supply had finished, Hagar sat Ishmael under some shade, but she knew they wouldn’t live long without water. Her heart couldn’t stand watching her son die, so she found another place to sit farther away. El Roi, however, was watching. This time He opened her eyes to the provision she needed to survive and keep Ishmael alive.
This shows that El Roi does not only see, He also makes us see. He makes us see the solution to the problem; He causes the eyes of our understanding to be enlightened so as to know the hope in which he has called us into. He sees us and makes us see as well.
We may feel invisible or not noticed by anyone; but El Roi is the God who numbers the hairs on our heads and counts our every tear. He knows every detail of our circumstances.
You may be wondering whether God sees or hears your prayer, Yes He does! Even when God is silent, His silences are filled with answers.
Today, trust God in all situations, be confident that He sees and knows all your plight. In the same vein, ask Him to make you see. Ask him to train your eyes to see what He is doing. Ask Him to illuminate the eyes of your heart, and you will begin to see. Glory to God!
