Psalm 31: 21 (KJV)
Blessed be the Lord: for he hath shewed me his marvellous kindness in a strong city.
Psalm 31: 21 (The Passion Translation)
The name of the Lord is blessed and lifted high! For his marvelous miracle of mercy protected me when I was overwhelmed by my enemies.
A strong city implies a fortified city. This scripture highlights God’s extraordinary and wonderful kindness in the midst of danger. It also implies a trust in God’s mercy and deliverance, even when feeling overwhelmed by adversity, challenges and situations of life.
If you’re doing something big, if you’re building something exceptional, you will understand what the psalmist is saying. If you ever felt all the walls are closing in against you, or all hell is let loose against you and you need a way out, you will realize what it means for God to bestow on you His marvellous kindness.
The Passion Translation uses the term “marvellous miracle of mercy”, the mercy of God shown to us is a miracle. We must not limit the mercy of God only to the forgiveness of sins. Mercy is an all encompassing commodity. We must hope in the mercy of God daily to come through for us. We must come boldly to the throne of grace to obtain mercy and find grace to help in times of need.
God’s mercy is His marvellous miracle towards His children. We must not lose sight of this great commodity. God is rich in mercy. God’s net worth is mercy. God is looking for who to lavish His mercy on every day. God is relentless in showing mercy. You can never outgrow the need for the mercy of God.
Psalm 147: 10 – 11 (KJV)
10 He delighteth not in the strength of the horse; He taketh not pleasure in the legs of a man.
11 The Lord taketh pleasure in them that fear Him, in those that hope in His mercy.
Only God can show mercy. God takes pleasure in showing mercy, and He delights in everyone that hopes on Him to show them mercy. Today, come boldly to the throne of grace and obtain mercy. Delight in God’s mercy. Take pleasure in God to show you mercy, His mercy never fails. You are child of His mercy and His mercy over you endures forever.
