Refuse To Be Perturbed

David battled despondency and discouragement at several times in his life. But he writes “The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul”.

The soul can break down or become in active, but the perfect law of liberty will restore it. Jesus had bitter experience; He voiced from the cross “My soul is very sorrowful, even to death”, but for the joy that was set before him, he endured the cross, despising the shame. The cross was so painful, but the glory ahead is greater.

Charles Spurgeon once said in his sermon, “My spirits were sunken so low that I could weep by the hour like a child, and yet I knew not what I wept for”. Spurgeon the “prince of preachers” battled depression (a causeless depression) but in the midst of it all, he yielded and accepted God’s sovereign grace.

You must always come to a place like David where you can say “He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul.”

This is what God’s word does to us. He restores, refreshes, renew the soul. The indwelling presence of God in a man is heaven on earth. Deliberate study, hearing, confession, agreeing with the Word and consistently mastering the art of rejoicing cannot be overemphasized.

If you have to go for that retreat again, please do! If you have listen to that tape to be stirred, don’t hesitate. Call that friend now, visit that prayer partner now.

Do everything to keep your soul aflame. Never come to a state of hopelessness, this was out state before Christ came. Now that Christ is in you, He is the hope glory; Christ in you is the reason for rejoicing.

Rejoice for a new wine is being poured from on high to you. Rejoice for greater is your glory. Rejoice because you’re one with divinity. Rejoice because all things are for your sake.

2 Corinthians 1:3–4 [KJV]
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction
