Serving God With Your Spirit

Romans 1: 9 (KJV)
For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers;

There are two ways to serve God. One is to serve with the arm or the energy of the flesh; the other is to serve in the power of the Spirit.

Serving God in the flesh simply means relying on your own natural abilities, effort and performances. Lots of people are forcing their service to God, that’s religion! They live by sets of rules, dos and don’ts.

Serving God with your spirit is “considering” yourself to be dead to your will, self and be alive to God.

John 4: 24 (KJV)
God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

This simply means worshipping God by the knowledge of the Word of God, and by the ability of the Holy Spirit at work in us. We can’t serve God with our Spirit unless His Word is rooted and grounded in us, and also yield to the Holy Spirit.

Man is a spirit; he has a soul and lives in a body. With his spirit, he relates with the spirit-realm; with his body, he relates with the earth realm (material world), and with his soul, he relates with the intellectual realm; the realm of thought, will and emotion.

1 Corinthians 6:17 (KJV)
But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.

Are spirit and God’s spirit are one. Only the spirit of a man that is saved can serve God. God is a spirit, and it takes the Holy Spirit to help us serve him because our senses were not designed to relate with God; we serve God from our spirit.

When it comes to God, our natural ingenuity, skill, energy, effort, performance and talent cannot pull through. The spirit of a born again man is designed to serve God “in the Spirit,” which means to completely rely on His indwelling life as the true source of strength of our ministry, worship and growth.

It’s humanly impossible to serve God by the energy of the flesh. We must be conscious of the indwelling presence of Christ living through us, rather than us living by our own natural energy.

It is the spirit that quickens us, the flesh profits nothing. The Holy Spirit, the same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead quickens us to serve and be alive unto God.

Philippians 3: 3 (KJV)
For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.

We glory in what Christ Jesus has done for us and realize that we are helpless to save ourselves. This is how we gain spiritual power, this is how we gain rise like an edifice, this is how we run and not be wearied, this is how we mount up like eagles and never fainting.

DECLARATION
I serve God by the Spirit, I rejoicing in Christ Jesus and I have no confidence in the arm of flesh. I am conscious of my spirit man. I am alive and active in God always.
