Some Enemies Of Faith

The devil’s major attack on the believer is on the faith life. If the devil can get you off faith zone, he has crippled everything you need to live a victorious life. The devil do these by his schemes and devices, but the Bible says … lest Satan should get an advantage over us. For we are not ignorant of his devices. (2 Corinthians 2:11). We should not be ignorant of his plots or plans.

There are four major occurrences in the Bible which Jesus described people’s faith as “little faith”. In today’s devotional, we are going to look at each of this occurrence from the scriptures and see why Jesus described those who are involved in that situation as men of “little faith”.

  1. Worry

Matthew 6: 30 [KJV] – Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which today is and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not MUCH MORE clothe you, O ye of little faith? The reason for little faith in this regard is worry.

Worry turns faith-level from maximum to minimum. Worrying about necessities of life is a display of little faith. Little faith can never get anything done. The cure for worry is to choose to pray over that situation and rejoice in the Lord for a MUCH MORE supply rather than worrying over it.

Philippians 4: 6 (KJV)
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

  1. Fear

Matthew 8: 26 [KJV] – And he said unto them, why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.

The reason for “little faith” here is fear. Fear is a display of little faith or lack of faith. Fear is a spirit, fear torments and shifts our focus from the Word. The cure for fear is boldness, full assurance in the Word of God and our identity in Christ Jesus. Our boldness stems from what Jesus accomplished for us.

2 Timothy 1: 7 (KJV)
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

Jesus exercised his authority; he refused to be perturbed by the storm, rather He brought calmness to the situation. He is a master over all things, and just like Jesus, we have become superior to every beggarly elements of this life; we are masters over the devil, demons, sickness and death. We are meant to use the name of Jesus as an instrument and exercise our rights and privilege in Him. We make demands and things answer to us.

3. Doubt

Matthew 14: 31 [KJV] – And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

Doubt is a display of “little faith”. Strong faith does not stagger, it maintains the confession and the focus on the Word even in the face of a terrible situation. Peter actually walked on the same water with Jesus, but that same water sank Peter and didn’t sink Jesus.

A doubting man will sink even if he’s in the presence of Jesus. Doubt overtook Peter because he turned his eyes away from the one who bided him to come walk on water. Doubts will take your eyes and heart from the promises of the Word. Refuse to be double minded, a double minded man is unstable in all his ways. Stand your ground, resist the devil, and he will flee.

James 1: 6 – 7 (KJV)
6 But let him ask in faith, never wavering; for he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind.
7 For let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord.

4. Lack Of Knowledge

Matthew 16: 8 [KJV] – Which when Jesus perceived, he said unto them, O ye of little faith, why reason ye among yourselves, because ye have brought no bread?

Jesus had miraculously fed four thousand people by multiplying seven loaves of bread and some fishes, then the Pharisee came afterwards to temp and trap him. Jesus rebuked the Pharisees and warned his disciples to be careful of the leaven of the Pharisee, but the disciples didn’t understand what Jesus meant by the leaven of the Pharisees; they thought he was referring to the miracle of the food that just took place and the fact they forgot to take some parts of the food Jesus provided for themselves; but Jesus was not actually talking about the food, but warned them about the doctrines and the hypocrisy of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

Everything in God’s kingdom is knowledge based. The eyes of our understand must be flooded with light to see what God sees. We must function by revelation. Just as automobiles are powered by gasoline, so also, we are powered by the knowledge of God’s word. The devil will keep defeating you to the extent of your ignorance and blindness.

Hosea 4: 6 (KJV)
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…

We are to be careful about anything that does not align with God’s word, for it can diminish with our faith. We must be full of understanding in the gospel of Jesus, knowing our rights and privileges. We must understand what the will of God is concerning a situation. The will of God is the word of God. God and his word are one, and He always honours his word
