What Manner Of Man Is This?

The account of how Jesus calmed the storm and stilled the waves in Mark 4:35 – 41 must have been an unforgettable experience for everyone on that scene. It was a great storm of the wind and that the waves were so much that it beat into the ship and it was full. Jesus was on that ship; fast asleep, unperturbed and undisturbed by the troubling the waves.

The disciple couldn’t handle the prevailing situation; they had to look for Jesus wherever He was in the ship; and behold He was found fast asleep. What? Rabbi, can’t you feel the storming waves? We are all going to die right in the middle of the sea; our ship is sinking and every item of it would soon fall apart.

And Jesus (from His innermost calm) rose up and spoke to the railing wind and storm with one sentence of command. “Peace be still”; and immediately the wind ceased and there was a great calm. Jesus turned to them and asked; why are you so afraid? Why don’t have faith?

This question is simply a message for us today; that “the supernatural life is not only exclusively reserved for Jesus” but to everyone who places and expresses their faith in Him. The miraculous can be performed by any believer in Christ; it is not exclusively reserved for some prophets, pastors, evangelists or apostles.

After the miraculous intervention, fear came on them; but this time around not the fear of the storm but the reverence of who Jesus is, and they looked on Him (Jesus) and asked themselves; what manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him?

The same manner of man whom the disciples gazed and wondered on is who the believer is today!

1 John 4:17 – Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.

2 Corinthians 5: 17 – Therefore, if any man be in Christ, He is a new manner of man (Paraphrased by the author).

This new manner of man can speak to nature just like Jesus and nature will obey, he can talk like Jesus to a dead body and it will jerk to life. This manner of man is superior to every negative element of this life. This is who the believer is; this is your identity in Christ, this is how God sees you – a new manner of man. Glory to His name, even us!
