Passionate Devotion

John 21: 16 (NIV)

Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.”

Jesus’ earthly life and ministry was about to come an end, and he came to a point where he needed a point man carry on with the assignment. Jesus asked Peter a very salient question here “Do you love me?” Jesus knew very well that Peter loved him, but he want an affirmation from Peter before the presence of other disciples.

Jesus did not say to Peter to just look after his sheep, he asked him to take care of His sheep, to feed and nourish them in the knowledge of Him. Feeding the sheep Jesus left behind is a proof of Peter’s love for Christ. Our service to others in the fold of Christ is a proof of our love for Christ.

Serving others and nurturing other disciples is reserved for Pastors of local churches only. Individual Christian are called to feed and nurture others as well. We should not leave the work of discipleship to our church leaders alone; the work of the ministry is cumbersome, burden bearers are needed for the furtherance of the gospel and firmness of the saints.

Today, be encouraged to take on the work of looking after God’s people, nurture them and follow them up till they become strong in the faith.  Don’t hold back in your service to God. Whatever God has placed in your to do, do it to the full capacity and you will be doing good to the household of faith. God is counting on your today, don’t hold back.
