Colossians 3: 1 – 2 (KJV)
1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
Setting your affection on things above means to prioritize eternal realities. You ought to fix your gaze not the things that are seen but on the things that are not seen. The things that are seen are subject to change, they are temporal, while the things unseen are eternal.
The system of this world is designed to fail and corrupt people; nothing in this world can last forever, only the world of God endures forever. The system of this world is governed by the senses, driven by lust, sustained by selfishness and pride, it is always opposing God’s divine will and purpose.
Be mindful of what you consume, whatever you listen to or consume will fill your thoughts, and your thoughts are the outcomes of your life. Don’t listen to bad news, block all channels of negative energy and everything that contradicts the word of God; if it does not align with “The Things Above”; reject and block it. This world’s chaos and woes will subdue you if you feed or yield to them.
Setting your mind on things above means actively choosing to focus your thoughts, values, and priorities on heavenly and eternal matters rather than getting consumed by temporary and earthly concerns. It is about aligning your perspective with God’s will, and God’s will is ONLY found in God’s word.
Be deliberate on meditating and reflecting on the Scripture, also by praying, communicating and singing to the Lord rather than being distracted by worldly noise. Your love should be on the Father, your affection should be focused on the the realities of the kingdom of God; who we are in Christ and what He has given us.
We are not of the earth, we don’t meditate and feed on earthly things; we are heavenly beings, we are Christ beings. We are risen with Christ and seated with him at the right hand of the Father. Your thought determines where your affection is; your affection will determine the realities of your life. Guard your heart and set your affections on God and His word only. This is the authentic way to live in this world. Amen!
