There is a difference between hearing the Word of God and living by the Word of God.
We can listen to sermons, read our Bibles, attend church, take notes, memorize scriptures, and even know exactly what God’s Word says—but knowledge alone does not make us wise.
Jesus said the wise person is the one who hears His words and puts them into practice.
The wise man and the foolish man in Matthew 7 both heard the Word. The difference was not what they heard; it was what they did with what they heard.
The wise man built his house upon the rock. When the rain came, the streams rose, and the winds blew against his house, it stood firm. His stability was not because storms never came. His stability was because his foundation was strong.
And this is the reality of our lives.
Storms will come.
There will be seasons of uncertainty, disappointment, pressure, temptation, loss, and unexpected circumstances. You cannot always control what comes against you, but you can determine what you are standing on.
The Word of God must become your foundation.
Don’t wait until the storm comes before you start building. Don’t wait until life becomes overwhelming before you begin searching for God’s Word. Build now.
Spend time in Scripture when everything is going well. Pray when you don’t have an emergency. Study the Word when you don’t have a crisis. Develop your relationship with God before you desperately need direction.
Because when the storm comes, you will discover that what you consistently built in the secret will sustain you in the public.
Hearing God’s Word gives you knowledge; obeying God’s Word gives that knowledge a foundation.
You may know what the Bible says about forgiveness, but wisdom is forgiving.
You may know what the Bible says about prayer, but wisdom is praying.
You may know what the Bible says about faith, but wisdom is trusting God when circumstances contradict His promises.
You may know what the Bible says about love, but wisdom is choosing to walk in love even when it is difficult.
The goal is not simply to become someone who knows the Word.
The goal is to become someone whose life is built upon the Word.
So, make a decision today: I will not merely hear the Word; I will practice it.
Give God’s Word first place. Make time for Scripture. Let it correct you, guide you, strengthen you, and shape your decisions.
Then, when the storms of life come, you won’t have to panic. You will have something solid beneath you.
Build your life on the Rock.
