Psalm 18: 28 – 29 (KJV)
For thou wilt light my candle: the Lord my God will enlighten my darkness. For by thee I have run through a troop; and by my God have I leaped over a wall.
This was David’s testimony, of his total dependency on God. David, a man of many colours; a shepherd, a musician, a psalmist, a warrior, a prophet and a king. In all of these, David often ascribed everything he became and achieved to God.
“For By Thee”, “By My God; phrases like these are common in the psalms. David fought many battle, and never lost one. Every battle he fought, he came out victorious. David would not embark on any journey unless He was certain the Lord would give him victory.
We must not fall into the bait of the enemy, we must not tiptoe into the arena of self glory. Whatever you possess or have achieved; learn to say like David “By My God”. A fool will ascribe all things to himself alone, forgetting it is God who gives power to acquire and to become.
“By My God”, let it be your song, let it be your phrase, drive it into your consciousness daily; never lose the awareness of attiributing everything to God; for is God who works in you both to will and do do of his good pleasure. This is how we become a man after God’s heart. “By My God”. Amen!
